Mischa Kuball, conceptual artist, has been working in the public and institutional sphere since 1984. In his installations and photographs he uses light as a medium to explore architectual spaces as well as social and political discourses. Through his work he reflects on a wide variety of aspects, from socio-cultural structures to architectural interventions, as well as emphasising or reinterpreting their monumental nature and context in architectual history. Public and private spaces merge into an indistinguishable whole in his politically motivated participation projects, providing a platform for communication among the audience, the artist, the work, and public space.
Since 2007 Mischa Kuball is a Professor of public art in the Academy of Media Arts, Cologne, and associate professor for media art at Hochschule für Gestaltung/ZKM, Karlsruhe. Since 2015 he is member of North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts, Duesseldorf. In 2016 he was honored with the German Light Award.
