Lecture series "Licht, Aufklärung und andere Irritationen - Künstlerische (Licht-)Interventionen in öffentlichen Räumen" by Mischa Kuball at HSD

2024/10/16, 7 pm I Building 6 - Atrium, Department Design, Hochschule Düsseldorf /DE

As part of the lecture series “On/Off Design” at the Department of Design (Peter Behrens School of Arts) at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, Mischa Kuball will kick off the series with the first of a total of six lectures.

Mischa Kuball is a conceptual artist who has been working in public space since the 1970s, creating site-specific artworks under the title “public preposition”. These works draw attention to the relationship between public places and their communities. Many projects are temporary or exist only as photographic documentation, but often use light and performance to stage architectural interventions and question the concept of 'publicness'. Kuball's work demonstrates a deep understanding of the transformative power of light to evoke emotion and stimulate conversation. His well-known projects include res.o.nant at the Jewish Museum Berlin, greenlight in Montevideo and refraction house at the Stommeln Synagogue. These projects reflect cultural and architectural structures and offer platforms for communication in urban space. He has been Professor of Public Art at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne since 2007. Previously, he taught media art at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design/ZKM. In 2016, he received the German Light Art Award and has been an Associate Member of the Cluster of Excellence at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin since 2024. As part of the On/Off Design lecture series, he will give a lecture entitled “Licht, Aufklärung und andere Irritationen - Künstlerische (Licht-)Interventionen in öffentlichen Räumen”.

Participation in the lecture series is free of charge and open to the public, registration is not required.
